With this project Ddiddue returned to his French-Basque roots. He wants to give a new impulse to the local espadrille manufacturers, within the limitations of the existing production industry. The number of Basque espadrille-workshops has steadily declined in the past twenty years, as most espadrilles are made in China now. In cooperation with one of the last remaining workshops Ddiddue developed a series of colourful and practical beach accessories, made of traditional rope and canvas. His aim is not only to ensure the continuity of the Basque cultural heritage, but also to develop a methodology to breathe new life into declining crafts anywhere.
