Master Media Design and
Quinten Swagerman successfully fooled many visitors during the graduation exhibition. The optical toy he designed was easily mistaken for a classic ‘zoetrope’ — the familiar object that, when given a twist, shows a short, looped animation. Swagerman created a peculiar variety: a digitalised version of the 18th century original that replaces the illustrations with small LCD-screens. The animation within the object does start when twisted — but, playing with the expectations of the visitors, it manages to ‘break free’ from the repetitive loop.
