Nustadt made good use of his background as a craftsman and glass blower when he set out to give glass vases a deeper meaning and a — literal — extra layer. He used the ancient Graal technique, starting with a small glass object, giving it different layers of clear and coloured glass. After the glass cooled down to room temperature, he applied his decorations by sandblasting photo stencils of pictures (mostly taken by himself). Then he heated the graal egg again to a 540 degrees Celsius, giving it an outer layer of clear glass and its final shape. The vase shape is rather traditional, but the ‘skyline’ presentation and most of all the wonderful new use of a difficult technique made this special.
