Laura van Os likes to think of herself as a researcher and designer of concepts, rather than stuff. She tackled a big problem: the massive decline of honeybee colonies worldwide. An important factor in this decline is the Varroa mite, a parasite that weakens the honeybee significantly. The Varroa mite is traditionally battled with oxalic acid, which is not entirely without disadvantages for bees. Laura van Os decided to look for a less harmful acid, started experimenting with Victoria rhubarb, and succeeded in developing a new, organic kind of oxalic acid.
